Screen printed & crochet granny square library bag

Miss 'E' started Kindy this year, and was terribly excited about needing a library bag. She is always 'needing' a new bag of some description and this time she knew her needs were warranted! I wanted her to have a pretty little library bag that was easily distinguished from the others. And I wasn't bowing to the pressure of buying a mass produced, licensed character one!

This is what we came up with.



A blank calico bag, a few crochet granny squares, an appliquéd letter 'E', a little bit of ric rac, a fabric scrap, some grosgrain ribbon and a handful of vintage buttons.


A beautiful vintage style gocco screen print.


And it was finished.

Vintage Sheets

 

My love for vintage and retro fabric is going strong, and my stash of vintage sheets is steadily growing.  I have a lot of photos that I haven't posted, so over the next few days I am going to post them all.  Just to clear the backlog of photos.

I have just downloaded blogpress on my phone. This blog post is a test run.



I have the crochet bug at the moment. It's amazing how accomplished to feel when you finish a little granny square.

Christmas for Teachers

 This year I made notebook covers and christmas ornaments as gifts for my boy's school teachers.  The ornaments are made from cornflower & bi-carb soda and were so much fun to make (miss "E" and I made quite a big mess)

I have just added these little "Garden Skirts" to my Made It shop.

They are made from a natural coloured hankie linen and have a vintage fabric and doily patch on the front.

(I don't even know Allison, so this is very presumptuous of me!) But if she is ever in my little part of the world maybe she might take me up on my offer!

Upcycle - Recycle - Have Fun

 

 

 

I am having a wonderful time creating these little upcyled dresses at the moment.  They will soon be for sale in my made it shop.

For Me!

There seems to be a huge difference between the type of clothes I wear and the style of clothes that I love.  Well I have finally made something for myself (in a fabric & style I love).  This skirt was once a tablecloth that I adored, and have had sitting in the cupboard for a few years.

When I wear this skirt I feel pretty & girly. 

There are more tablecloths sitting and waiting in that cupboard, just waiting for a new lease on life.  The hardest part is deciding which one to cut up first!

MADE IT

I have finally set up my made it shop, so now my designs can be purchased online.

There are only a few items for sale at the moment because I'm still learning all the tricks (most time efficient way) of how to upload items to sell.  Hopefully by the end of the week I should have it mastered and down to a fine art!
I must say thank you to Shan and the kids for being very patient with me over the last few days, as every spare minute I have seems to be spent on the computer.  I am looking forward to firing up the sewing machine again!

Upcycle Love

I have been busy designing some up cycled dresses. This one is made from a shirt of mine, that has sat in my cupboard for a very long time (mainly because it is too small for me!) 
My practice piece is always for miss 'E' and at her request it is a long one. 
I love turning something that isn't being used or is a little unloved into something pretty and loved again.  And I think Miss 'E' looks quite impressed with it herself!

Long time, no see

I am sorry little blog for the lack of attention I have showed you, the sheer abandonment and complete lack of love. I promise I will change, make more time for you and fit you into my everyday life.

The kitchen and my new found hobby (like I need another one) crochet, have been taking up quite a big slice of my time.  Lemon cordial and Lemon Butter have been among my favourite kitchen sessions, followed closely by flicking through the pages of my op shop find  "AUSTRALIAN COOKERY OF TODAY - ILLUSTRATED". This book has 512 pages and can be quite entertaining to read as well as being full of beautiful "old fashioned" recipes.

Now, crochet is one thing that I have said on many occasions that I do not need to learn!  Well I have blown that theory out of the water.  I have learnt and I love it!  Below are some photos of my first of many crochet granny squares.

And just to explain before you ask "what is with all of the parsley photos?" 
I have found that I can grow parsley like a professional (or maybe it's just really easy to grow).  I am going to stick with the professional theory because it makes me feel more accomplished.  Now, because of my over abundance of parsley and under abundance of beautiful flowers (I'm not so good at growing them) , I have chosen to use my parsley as a cut flower and display it with pride in my kitchen.  And I have found that it looks much better in a vase (mostly an old preserving jar) than silver beet!
